Meteoros, by Mariana Vilanova, is presented within CAVE project, going through the virtual landscapes of Google Earth – an attempt of a perfect representation of the world, made by a superior, non-human look – to find illusions produced by digital technology, where error leads to artistic discussion.

Following the archival practice of portraits of the Earth, Meteoros – which means high in the sky – shows us a sequence of landscapes waiting to be replaced, with distorted, stretched planes where we (still) see clouds. 

The exhibition is organized by Curtas Metragens CRL, as part of the programming of Solar – Cinematic Art Galley, with the support of Vila do Conde Municipality and the Direção-Geral das Artes.

Mariana Vilanova (Porto, 1996) works in photography, video and multimedia installation, on themes and challenges of the 21st century, such as the impact of advances in technology and on the planet. She has a degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto and a Master in Multimedia from the Faculty of Engineering of Porto, with the work Evoking a Simulated Past (Gnration, Fundação Bienal de Arte de Cerveira).  She exhibits regularly since 2016, highlighting the works Hiato, with Francisco Oliveira (Semibreve Festival, Tibães Monastery, 2020), War and the End of Empathy (Galeria Municipal do Porto, 2019), and the exhibitions Solastalgia (Ócio Gallery, 2022), We should never grow tired of trees (Ocupa Gallery, 2022) and Before and After Us (RAMPA Gallery, 2021). In 2019 she was the winner of the Sonae Media Art award with the work Systems Synthesis.
