Artistic Residencies
Laboratórios de Verão 2025: open call
Consonâncias Efémeras, Sofia Morim + Filipe Carvalho ® Hugo Sousa / gnration

Applications for the Laboratórios de Verão are currently open until April 6. Artists and collectives from the Braga district or Vila do Conde municipality are invited to submit their proposals for developing original artistic works.

To support local artistic creation, gnration (Braga), CIAJG - Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães (Guimarães) and Solar - Cinematic Art Gallery (Vila do Conde) are launching the 11th edition of the Laboratórios de Verão programme. This initiative is aimed at artists or collectives, residents in or from the district of Braga and the municipality of Vila do Conde, who propose to develop original artistic content in the fields of image, sound, interactivity, performance, music, dance or at the crossroads between these areas.

Through an open call, the Laboratórios de Verão are looking for projects to be developed in an artistic residency format between July and August 2025. Subsequently, the works created will be presented publicly in installation/exhibition or performance format in the three venues - from September 5th to 13th 2025 at gnration, from October 11th to November 30th at CIAJG and from December 6th 2025 to January 31st 2026 at Solar.

For the winning projects, the project programme also offers monetary support of €2,000 (VAT included) per project, as well as technical and production support for the implementation of the works, curatorial support and the possibility of presenting the works at LAC - Laboratório de Actividades Criativas (Lagos). Four projects will be supported in this edition, totalling 8,000€.

To apply, applicants must submit a description of the artistic proposal, a description of the logistical, technical and production requirements associated with it, a biography and portfolio of the authors, proof of residence in the district of Braga or the municipality of Vila do Conde (if the applicant is not from these places) and a declaration of commitment to develop the project at the gnration, CIAJG or Solar facilities. These requirements can be met using the application form available online at gnration.pt or ciajg.pt.

Applications close on April 6th and the winning projects will be announced on May 9th. The programme's jury is made up of Luís Fernandes (Artistic Director of gnration, Braga), João Terras (CIAJG, Guimarães), Mário Micaelo (Artistic Director of Solar, Vila do Conde) and Joana Pestana (curator).

Created in 2015, the Laboratórios de Verão programme has been a driving force for local artistic creation and contemporary culture in the region over the last ten years. In all, the programme created by gnration has supported four dozen projects and more than half a hundred artists.

Laboratórios de Verão is an action promoted by gnration, CIAJG - Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães and Solar - Cinematic Art Gallery, and is supported by the Portuguese Republic - Culture / Directorate-General for the Arts within the scope of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (RPAC).
