The exhibition ‘O que aconteceu ainda está porvir’, with Ana Vaz's filmography, can be seen at Solar - Galeria de Arte Cinemática (Vila do Conde) and Batalha Centro de Cinema (Porto).

Galeria Solar, in Vila do Conde, will host the second and new episode of the series of film poems that artist and filmmaker Ana Vaz has been developing, in the artist's words, ‘a sci-fi ethnography of different European capitals as axes of colonial thought’. ‘The cities are seen as hallucinations, revealing what seems absent and contaminates what we see: their colonial past and future disasters. Past and future, stories and omens intertwine under the prismatic gaze of authors such as Isabel Carvalho, Maïa Tellit Hawad and Olivier Marboeuf.’

‘The filmography of artist and filmmaker Ana Vaz activates and questions cinema as an art of the (in)visible and an instrument capable of transforming human perception, expanding its connections and becoming with other forms of life. Her film-poems are marked by a constant experimental challenge to the poetic forms of contemporary cinema, highlighting the profound contradictions of our time and questioning, above all, the destructive practices of colonial modernity,’ says the Curtas Vila do Conde Festival.

The exhibition ‘What has happened is yet to come’ opens on 19 September and can be seen between 21 September and 19 November at Solar - Galeria de Arte Cinemática (Vila do Conde). Galeria Solar, in partnership with Batalha Centro de Cinema, presents this new chapter dedicated to the city of Porto, which will be shown in an articulated way in both spaces, through moving image installations, expanded sound work and research documents, which fragment this new cinematographic piece on the exhibition plane. The exhibition will be on show at Batalha from 19 September until 17 November.

Ana Vaz was present at Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival with the films ‘Entre Temps’ (2013) and ‘Há Terra!’ (2016), in the Curtas Experimental Competition. ‘These points of contact paved the way for a new and wide-ranging project, the centrepiece of which is his original exhibition What Happened Is Yet to Come.’

At the same time, in partnership with the Circular Festival of Performing Arts, the project will expand to the Vila do Conde Municipal Theatre, where there will not only be a performance reading led by the artist - or, more precisely, by her voice - but also a screening of four of her films: ‘Occidente’, ‘Há Terra!’, ‘Apiyemiyeki?’ and ‘A Idade da Pedra’. At the Cinema Batalha, you can watch the short film ‘Meteoro’, followed by a talk that promises to summon up some of the discourses on which this film series was built.
