Introduction

There is a theory that the artificial intelligence used by Google Translate's algorithms initially assumed English as a zero-point when translating between two languages. That is, whatever language was to be translated, the algorithm took English as the starting point to translate into the desired language.

After some time, Google's development team noticed that the artificial intelligence had created its own language, totally unknown to humans, and had replaced English as the zero-point.

The machine had created a proto-language, a bridge-language, capable of harmonising and nullifying human language barriers.

This exhibition has as its starting point the search for a common language in two different plastic languages: the photographic work of Daniela Ângelo and the engraving work of Rita Ferreira. The work of these artists was appropriated and submitted to a set of systems that, while preserving what are the idiosyncratic qualities of each, act as a filter that blurs the linguistic boundaries that distance them to find a point of fusion.

With the use of prisms, kaleidoscopic lenses and the subversion of laboratory protocols, the light of Daniela Ângelo's photographs was geometrized and decomposed into new photographs that suggest game boards made of exotic woods, but which are, in fact, matrices of a score capable of producing a blackout in the exhibition. A set of violent sounds are triggered off, interrupting the electronic systems, forcing the restarting of all the video and sound processing systems, introducing time fragments of analog exclusivity into the exhibition.

The prints by Rita Ferreira were used as territory capable of producing rules and exercising a double power: the power to decompose the body of Daniela Ângelo's photographic images and the sound manipulation of auditory hallucinations, capable of producing an environment of perfect harmony.

Using various techniques that allow the control of light, the exhibition proposes a linguistic exercise capable of transposing any image to a common territory, with a universal dialectic and shared mechanics, similar to what is enhanced in front of a game board.
