Intro
The renewed encounter between the programming of Solar - Cinematic Art Gallery and of Circular Festival de Artes Performativas results in a co-production that explores the multidisciplinary creative work of João Pais Filipe and Mónica Baptista. In the case of this exhibition, which also includes performance moments, the possible intersections between the programming logic of the two structures based in Vila do Conde establish bridges between distinct territories: the percussionist musician is also a sculptor and sound sculptor; the experimental filmmaker is a photographer and a visual artist who uses photography as a base element for spatially developed devices. Both artists have previously participated in other programming activities of Curtas Metragens CRL, a fact that corroborates criteria of continuity or even complicity, in the relationship that is being built with artists from the same areas of action and intervention and geographical implementation: João Pais Filipe, in 2018, in the 26th Curtas Vila do Conde, with the band Black Bombaim, in a film-concert for "Dragonflies with Birds and Snake" by the German Wolfgang Lehmann; Mónica Baptista, who since the collective films produced in a school context, in 2007, has also been participating in the festival and in several competitions (Boca, 2007; Kispo, 2007; Territories, 2009; Diary, 2011; Strong Water, 2018; Nine Doors, 2018). The exhibition was imagined together, after a challenge launched by the teams of programmers, calling João Pais Filipe for a broader work, of disciplinary crossings and for the exploration of the total space of the gallery, individually, but with openness to any other collaborations. Mónica Baptista's contribution added value to the process, with pieces that intrinsically manifested complicity and complementarity. Consequently, the gallery is inhabited by objects, images, and sounds that form a whole. They are like a record of a relationship that extends in time and space, particularly that of the journey to remote landscapes, the place where symbolic charges are exponentiated and where encounters with other cultures are also explored.
