ANIMAR 20

08.MAR-07.JUN.2025

Starting March 8th 2025, the 20th edition of ANIMAR proposes a program centered on Portuguese Animation Cinema.

Solar - Cinematic Art Gallery is presenting an exhibition based on the films Almost Forgotten, by Miguel Lima and Dimitri Mihajlovic; It Shouldn't Rain Tomorrow, by Maria Trigo Teixeira; T-Zero, by Vicente Nirō; The Girl with the Occupied Eyes, by André Carrilho; and Three Comma Fourteen, by Joana Nogueira and Patrícia Rodrigues. The ANIMAR 20 program also includes guided tours, themed workshops and activities that extend to film screenings at the Vila do Conde's Municipal Theatre and at schools.

The exhibition works in parallel with the films, integrating various devices in an installation format. ANIMAR 20 invites the public to enter the universes of these works, through full-scale recreations, experimental languages and even reproductions of the artists' working environments. It reveals the creative process behind the films, displaying objects such as character studies, storyboards and props.

When you visit the exhibition, you can step into the imagery of the films in rooms with immersive environments, try out the techniques used by the artists in workshop rooms and watch new works created exclusively for the installation. The trailers of the films on display in the exhibition can be seen in a cinema room set up in the gallery, where there will also be screenings of the films in their entirety, with specific groups from schools.

ANIMAR 20 also offers a program aimed at school-age audiences, a series of film sessions adapted to the various age groups, to combine entertainment with a concern for education through the moving image, seeking to bring new cinematographic languages and reflections to children and youngsters. This program can be shown at the Municipal Theatre, in the cinema room at the Solar - Cinematic Art Gallery or in schools that are unable to get to the cinema.

ANIMAR will open with a screening of Flow by Gints Zilbalodis and close with Robot Dreams by Pablo Berger, shown at the Vila do Conde's Municipal Theatre on March 8th and June 7th, respectively. The films featured in the exhibition can be seen at an open-air screening on June 6th.

The ANIMAR project, promoted by Solar - Cinematic Art Gallery and promoted by Curtas Metragens C.R.L.'s Educational Service, proposes new tools, means and methodologies that introduce the principle of learning through a participatory experience. It is the result of an innovative proposal to raise awareness of art, decode the image and mobilize transversal knowledge, stimulating the imagination through the principle of learning by playing.
